ATELIER MOMAL
[ MOMAL is a living practice
— where art, design, and life meet.
Original works and limited pieces, shaped by movement, material, and time. ]

[ Born from years of moving between worlds —
from Arctic silence to crowded rooms, from mountain ranges to makeshift studios.
Old books picked up along the way. Music that stays in the body long after it ends. Encounters — brief or lifelong — that shift how you see.
Each work grows from here — an exploration of memory, imagination, and becoming. Of what it means to be alive. ]

NEW SERIES:
"Edges of Presence"
[ STUDIES OF PASSAGE —
MOVEMENT BEFORE LANGUAGE ]
Six works. Six movements. Tracing the edge where something begins — before it is understood. Brush against surface. Breath against resistance. A rhythm forming without permission. Time does not move forward here — it folds, returns, deepens. Layers are laid down, broken, held, released. What appears is not constructed — it is uncovered.
Each painting holds a threshold: where memory, instinct, and becoming meet. Where something in you recognizes itself, before you know why. This is not about resolution. It is about staying. Long enough for tension to become rhythm, and for resistance to become movement.

It arrives quietly — but does not leave.
A world opens before it is understood.
Something small — almost nothing — breaks through the surface of the day. Not loud. But precise. A flicker. A feeling. A thought that doesn’t leave. It stays. Returns. Asks again. A world begins there — not visible, but undeniable. You don’t understand it. You follow it. Light touches. Testing. Pausing. Returning. Not knowing where it leads — only that something has opened. The edge — first felt.
"a quiet
pull"
[DESCRIPTION] Warm ochres, chalky whites, and deep earthen reds press gently into the surface.
A pale field opens, partially held, partially erased — as if something is trying to surface but hasn’t yet found its form. Marks hover between appearing and dissolving. The painting breathes in a quiet anticipation— a first touch that lingers.

"following what
moves"
[DESCRIPTION] Sweeping strokes in muted clay, rose, and blue push across the surface, returning, overlapping, extending. Searching, reaching.
Gesture becomes rhythm. A forward motion builds — not forced, but found through staying.

The body moves before certainty.
Something unseen begins to lead.
There is a moment, where you choose — to lean in. Toward something not yet formed. The hand moves before the mind agrees. Marks return. Again. Again. Stretching further. Holding longer. Something builds - through repetition, through trust, through staying. A world taking shape through movement.

Edges soften — but something strengthens.
A quiet intensity begins to hold.
You’ve crossed something now. Edges soften. Boundaries lose their grip. What was held begins to breathe. There is a strange calm here — even as something deeper gathers. Strokes slow. Pressure thickens. A density forms — quiet, unseen, but certain. Like warmth beneath the surface. Like breath before descent. Not release. Not yet. But the moment you know you will not turn back.
"gathering
depth"
[DESCRIPTION] Layered burgundy, ochres, and creme undertones accumulate into thicker passages. Scraped and reworked areas create tension between softness and resistance.
The surface no longer drifts — it gathers.
A density forms beneath the visible — felt more than seen.

"dancing along
edges"
[DESCRIPTION] Warm ochres, indigo, and burnt sienna move across the surface in shifting rhythms — tracing a movement between tension and release.
Edges blur, sharpen, then soften again.
A heat lingers playfully beneath the movement.
Something is building — not through force, but through closeness.

Everything draws a little closer -
The surface moves with a quiet insistence.
Heat gathers beneath the rhythm. Layers brush against one another. Marks no longer drift. They circle, press close, pull away again. This is the edge —where holding on and letting go begin to blur. Nothing resolves too quickly. It lingers there — alive with possibility of what lies next.

A rhythm takes over.
Heartbeat. Breath. Release.
It gives. Not all at once — but fully. Everything that gathered opens. The surface pulses — alive, warm, and uncontained. Marks arrive now — not searching, but trusting. A rhythm takes over. Heartbeat. Breath. Movement. Nothing is held too tightly anymore. Nothing asks to be controlled. There is only the joy of letting go.
"the joy of
liberation"
[DESCRIPTION] Warm reds, fleshy pinks, and luminous yellows unfold across deep, layered grounds in sweeping, rhythmic gestures. Marks no longer search — they trust. Meeting, opening, returning again.
Layers loosen, deepen, and fall into one another, like something finally giving itself permission to open. Not force. Not control. Just the joy of letting go.

"the warmth after"
[DESCRIPTION] Softened reds, ochres, and muted violets settle into broader, quieter planes. Edges relax without disappearing. Traces of movement remain beneath the surface.
The painting holds what has passed through it — memory, warmth, new ground. A quieter depth emerges here — still carrying motion beneath its calm.

What moved through remains. A stillness, alive with memory.
What moved through remains. In the body. In the surface. In the space between. A warmth — impossible to deny. Not intensity anymore — something deeper. Edges blur gently into memory. Everything carries the trace of what it became. A lingering breath. A quite smile. A softness that stays.
